Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a minimally invasive surgical technique that is utilized for a number of different thoracic conditions. VATS can be used as a diagnostic tool and for therapeutic purposes when treating diseases of the chest. With the assistance of a videoscope, several thoracic diseases can be treated in a minimally invasive manner resulting in less postoperative pain and a shorter hospital stay.

These include:
• Lung Biopsy
• Pericardial window
• Drainage of and treatment for recurrent pleural effusion
• Treatment of pneumothoraces with bleb resection
• Biopsy and possible resection of
mediastinal and chest wall tumors
• Thoracic sympathectomy
