Cardiothoracic surgical research in valve repair and the surgical treatment of heart failure were performed at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with Dr. Mehmet Oz and at New York University School of Medicine with Drs. Aubrey Galloway, Eugene Grossi and Stephen Colvin. His Cardiothoracic surgical residency was completed at New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. DiGiorgi came to Florida in 2007. Since that time he has significantly advanced cardiothoracic surgery in southwest Florida and serves as Chief of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Section for the Lee Memorial Hospital System.

Appreciating the advantages minimally invasive surgery affords patients, Dr. DiGiorgi has focused on building a comprehensive minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgical program.  Our minimally invasive heart surgery program has blossomed into a nationally recognized advanced training center for dozens of surgeons from around the country and world. In addition, he has pioneered our DaVinci robotic program offering minimally invasive, robotic bypass surgery and valve surgery including mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair.  The vast majority of valve surgery Dr. DiGiorgi performs is minimally invasive, regardless of complexity or risk.  He also started our minimally invasive lobectomy program providing patients with fully video assisted surgery (VATS) for lung cancer treatment.  The majority of lung cancer surgery is now performed using this minimally invasive approach.  By working closely with the hospital and referring clinicians our cardiothoracic surgical program has enjoyed dramatic success.
